A loss is only a loss if you dont learn from it…

This past trip at the World Championships was a eye-opener.  I hate for the biggest tournament of the year to be that.  I lost my 2nd match, and everything that I didnt do came back to me.

Every time I didnt get those extra sparring sessions…

Everytime I relaxed when I should have been pushing…

Nearly right after the World Championships in LA, I headed to Hawaii to help train the boys in the North Shore.  While being a great trip, It motivated me to get back to the shape mentally and physically that I know I can be in.  The guys up there were more than hospitable and were the best training partners i could ask for.  I had something to prove at this past Pac Sub event, and I was determined to make it happen.

Knowing nothing about my opponent Marcio Silva, I devised a gameplan of all my “A” techniques.  A lot of times something happens in a match that makes you abandon your gameplan…makes you go to a position you didnt want to, only because it felt right at the time.  But more times than not…it puts us into trouble.  So when i made my gameplan…there would be no changing it mid match.

Well, it worked and I did exactly that.  All the techniques I used in the match are the very same ones I teach in my class on a monthly basis.  I dont want to catch people in moves….I want to force people into my moves whether they know it or not.  The feeling of a movement being a reaction, or a natural movement ingrained into your muscle memory.

Marcio was a tough opponent, and was almost on my back at one point….but i had no holes in my game.  There were defenses as well as attacks.  Never a moment of “What do i do?”, …only confidence in my techniques and executions of them.

I could go on and on, but take a look for yourself.  Let me know what you think!

One more huge Thanks to Leif for bringing me out.  Thanks to all the the Da’Hui And North Shore Jiujitsu!
